Our unexpected New Year's Gift

On 2nd Jan 2024, a fine sunny morning, after the busy New Years day, we started this day a tad bit slow. Having our breakfast and chitter-chatting per usual, I saw my brother jumping out from his seat in excitment. He ran towards the aquarium, pointing at something. I and mom ran too to see what he was pointing at.

We had Guppies and Mollies in the aquarium. But there was a TINIEST fish we ever saw. It was a baby fish! We couldn't contain our excitment. My brother immediately ran to get a large spoon to take out the baby fish and he safely put it in a bowl. After a moment, we spotted another baby fish but then the scene was different. The older fishes were trying to get/ eat the baby fish and this tiny fish was trying to hide and save itself. We were shocked and surprised to see this behaviour in real life. My brother and mom tried to get him immediately into the separate bowl.

Then our slow day had turned into a super-hyper day, trying to spot any other baby fishes in the hiding spots in the aquarium. We 3 surrounded the aquarium, our eyes wide open and looked into each corner. It was mostly mom or my brother who were spotting them. After sometime, I spotted one and I was so happy. The next moment, I spotted another baby fish, but before I even could let my brother know, I saw the bigger fish gulping him :( That made me very sad!

But that's how the nature is, survival of the fittest! - we could save 8 baby fishes (I say 'save' because if my brother had not spotted them initially, all these baby fishes would have been eaten by the big fishes) and lost a couple to the big fishes eating them. Then we made lots of videos of the baby fishes. Overall, it was a productive day hahah.

Thus, we had a super exciting, stressed, joyful day, welcoming (unexpected) new baby fishes into our home, during the New Years. But we still do not know whose babies are those - Guppies or Mollies. Only time will tell. I'll keep you posted.
